Question 69: (December 13th, 2014) Answer

Answer: 14.
If the bulb breaks when dropped from 14th ft, then we need 13 more attempts 1-13 : total 14 attempts.
If the bulb survives at 14th ft and breaks when dropped from 27th ft, then we need 12 more attempts 15-26 : total 14 attempts.
If the bulb survives at 14th, 27th ft and breaks when dropped from 39th ft, then we need 11 more
attempts 28-37 : total 14 attempts.
In the similar way, if the bulb survives at 14th, 27th, 39th, 50th, 60th, 69th, 77th, 84th, 90th,
95th ft and breaks when dropped from 99th ft, then we need 3 more attempts 96 - 98 : total 14 attempts
If the bulb survives at 14th, 27th, 39th, 50th, 60th, 69th, 77th, 84th, 90th, 95th, 99th ft and
breaks when dropped from 100th ft - only 12 attempts.
Based on this analysis, we need a minimum of 14 attempts to decide the safe dropping height.
